WHERE TO PLACE A SAFE AREA & PROVIDE TIME TO GET THERE
Secure Fortress will help you determine where to place your Safe Area, and how best to fortify. Safe Areas should be near where people often are. This is why master bedroom suites, family rooms, & media rooms are often selected.
Forced entry attempts often occur during the night, so, if possible, the path to the Safe Area should be quick and unencumbered.
We always recommend that fortified front and back entry doors also be installed. If there are windows that are easy entry points, you should consider those be armored as well. This will frustrate the vast majority of criminals, and they will search for easier prey.
Secure Fortress can armor all of your windows to make a home virtually impenetrable. However, that is not always feasible for home owners, so determined criminals might eventually gain entry through a window.
By then, your family will have plenty of time to reach their Safe Area, and with the touch of a button, keep criminals out.

What makes secure fortress safe areas
Secure Fortress Safe Areas are designed and engineered to meet – and usually far exceed industry standards. So… what does this mean?
DOORS & WALLS
Our RhinoVault Ballistic rated doors use MIL-A 46100 - MIL-A 12560 steel, or Waco Composite Armorcore Fiberglass.
MIL-A 46100 is high-hardness armor plate that is approved for use within the Department of the Army and is available for use by all Departments and Agencies of the Department of Defense. Applications are various. Surface hardness of this material is between 477 and 534 brinell. The custom fabricated steel is thin – 1/8” & 1/4” – custom fabricated for each Safe Area.
MIL-A 12560 is armor plate that is approved by the Material Technology Laboratory, Department of the Army. It is approved for use in combat-vehicles and for ammunition testing. Thickness ranges from 1/4” through 6” inclusive are for use in combat-vehicles and 1/4” through 12” inclusive are for use in proof acceptance testing of armor defeating ammunition. The custom fabricated steel is thin, and custom fabricated for each Safe Area. The custom fabricated steel is thin – about ¼” – and custom fabricated for each Safe Area.
ArmorCore® panels are thin, light weight and affordable. It is designed to absorb a bullet’s energy within the panel’s laminate. The composite laminate consists of fiberglass reinforced thermoset resin capable to defeat a bullet through a process of energy absorption within the laminate. Once the panels have begun to delaminate, any additional shots become progressively easier to defeat because the energy is more readily absorbed by the laminate. ArmorCore® also provides fire resistance.
While ballistic doors are quite heavy, they swing and roll as easily as ordinary doors due to heavy duty ball bearing hinges. Roton hinges might also be used.
WINDOWS
For commercial clients, Secure Fortress provides ballistic, blast, and forced-entry resistant windows from DefenseLite and BulletShield, with commercial window security films from 3M.
For residential clients, Secure Fortress provides ballistic, blast, and forced-entry resistant windows from Shield and residential window security films from 3M. We are one of the few that can provide you with operative ballistic windows (versus a fixed only window).
Secure Fortress utilizes the largest installer of 3M window films in the country for your installation.
CAMERAS
Your home and property will be covered with high resolution cameras that feed directly into your Safe Area and your cell phone, iPad. The cameras can be from Ring, Luma, Clare, or ultra high resolution from Visual Remote. Discrete cameras might be placed in strategic areas in case visible cameras are obscured.
IMPORTANT ADDITIONS.
AIR FLOW – If a situation calls for a several hours stay in your safe area, you want to have plenty of clean air. Secure Fortress will install separate system ductwork to assure plenty of fresh air is available specifically to your Safe Area. This is important to prevent stale, stuffy air in a tightly sealed area. Secondarily, it precludes a determined intruder attempts to pump gasses via the home ventilation system. Tight, remotely operated dampers can be placed on existing home vents.
POWER – Electricity can go down due to storms, or be intentionally turned off by intruders. Secure Fortress will discretely place a battery backup/inverter of sufficient capacity to not only run lights, but even small air conditioning or heating units.
COMMUNICATIONS – If your cellular signal strength is low in your safe area, there are several options. Signal booster. A land line run separately – on the chance a primary land cable has been cut, as well as GPS enabled phones.
WATER/PLUMBING – You will obviously need a supply of water. We often recommend your Safe Area include a bathroom specifically for that purpose. Even then, a water supply can be turned off or fail, so Secure Fortress can use and existing closet or cabinet, or build a custom cabinet for an ample supply of water. If no bathroom is available, camping type toilets can be used.
FOOD – While one never imagines being in a Safe Area for long periods of time, many report being very hungry after even a relatively short number of hours. A discretely placed small refrigerator and microwave solves that issue. If your Safe Area is a family area with a wet bar, they may already be in place. Both could be run by your backup power if necessary. Durable foods have become much more palatable. We recommend a supply of those also be kept with your water.
WINDOWS & SKYLIGHTS – If there are windows in your Secure Fortress Safe Area, they will have already been armored. However, you may want more than curtains or standard blinds to keep prying eyes from peering into the room. Secure Fortress can install security blinds or shades. Beautiful, stylish – but seals the windows completely.
Skylights are a different issue. Armored skylights are available, and even skylights that turn opaque with the touch of a control button. They are installed in a security frame to prevent entry via impact. Homeowners often want the same look and feel for all skylights. If so, a motorized security blind can be implemented. Similar to a pocket door, it stays recessed and invisible until called into operation.
ANTI-DRONE MEASURES – Most homes and businesses are not concerned with drones. However, as more advanced drone tech has become readily available, commercial facilities and estates have increasingly come under drone cameras prying eyes. And drone surveillance is not the only concern. Hostile drones are able to carry explosives, precision guided bomblets, chemical agents, and even weapons. Drones often fly too low to be detected by radar systems. Secure Fortress utilizes the some of the world´s leading Anti-Drone Technology to counter threats to commercial, and estate properties.

Every Shield window comes with an integrated multi-point locking system and when it comes to installation, we use the same heavy duty framing technology from our doors. We offer a range of security glass options from sledgehammer resistant P6B glass all the way to UL level 8 glass that will stop a round from an AK-47 or an M16 rifle. Every piece of glass is custom baked, allowing us to create unique shapes that suit your home and ensure you never have to compromise on security or style.
